I have read every posting from your purchase of beach house forward. Even bookmarked the website so when I have a question I can see if you have already answered it. The two of you have been so helpful and I imagine there are many people you have provided info for that haven't acknowledged your expertise and experience. The Boat, crews ability and weather all play a role in safety. If you sail in as a family, you will have to leave the same way. It's impossible to troubleshoot or guess about the issues without being on site. I would suggest you contact a mechanic that is familiar with the FL and turbo engines and have them do a thorough analysis. The mechanic that "diagnosed" the blowby should have looked into the problem more so I would not put a lot of stock in his assessment. Good luck. Thank you !!
My question/issue is this : About 4 months ago I bought an 85 Grand Banks 36CL in Miami and moved it home to Charleston, SC via the ditch. The oil/filters were changed before the trip. No issues. I then moved it to New Bern, NC, and again had the oil changed. The issue: the mechanic said the starboard Lehman 225 Turbo has approx. 1-1.5 gallons less oil than the port. He said (of a largeish) oil trail down the engine mount rail was that it was "excessive blowby" and the reason for the oil difference. After cleaning things up, I noticed that the oil appears to be dripping from the turbo charger, not the blow by (?) tube. Is this possible, or am I way off base ? If so, 1)how serious is it ? 2) whats involved in fixing it, and 3) is it expensive ? Would such a leak cause the oil difference I described ?
Again, thank you for your time and all the help you give us novices !Scott Snoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5665070556831726952.post-4516792649728031772016-12-25T10:41:10.293-05:002016-12-25T10:41:10.293-05:00Tom, While I would say it is doable in your boat, ...Tom, While I would say it is doable in your boat, it will all depend on everything working without a hitch and according to plan. I'm planning the trip now and would most likely shove off end of August 17. I'm planning on 14 travel days (21 total to account for weather and general issues).
